In Italy, the number of coronavirus deaths has risen to over 20,000. After the U.S., Italy is the country with the highest number of deaths worldwide to date. To stay healthy during the pandemic, IDM Superbike rider Alessandro Polita has been staying home with his family. “Hopefully, the rest of the sensible people around the world are doing the same,” says the HRP-Honda rider quite clearly, adding, “It’s strange for everyone, but it’s important to respect the government’s decision that everyone should stay home.”
The 35-year-old lives in the province of Ancona, a region that has been particularly hard hit by the novel virus. “Yes, there are many cases in my region,” Polita confirms, “but everything is under control! I hope so.”
Polita offered to help during these difficult times. “Given the government’s latest guidelines, I thought I could put the bike I use for training to good use by helping pharmacies in the Senigallia area deliver medications to those who need them. I’m available to help, taking every precaution and exercising the utmost care.”
Because the days are so long. “In the mornings, I’m home alone with my daughter Ida because my girlfriend works at a family business! And then I play with Ida! We use everything to design and build and rebuild. When Eva comes home in the afternoon, I get on the exercise bike.” Although everything seems to revolve around COVID-19 right now, Alex Polita hopes to be able to race again soon. “There’s a group chat with the whole team. We’re all keeping in touch.”
