This year is the year. Paul Fröde is determined to win the Superstock 600 class. The Hohenstein-Ernstthal native has already submitted his entry. But for now, he’s sidelined. The reason is a broken collarbone he sustained during training in Valencia.
“Unless someone else signs up, I’ll be the only Honda rider in the field again in 2020,” says Paul Fröde. The likelihood of that happening is slim. The 600cc model has been around for a few years now. But that doesn’t bother Fröde, “because as long as I can really pick up speed on the Honda, that’s fine.” Last year, the Saxon finished third overall in the Superstock 600 class. He secured six podium finishes.
Although overall winner Stefan Ströhlein won’t be defending his title, that doesn’t automatically clear the path for Fröde. “But I want to win the Cup now; there’s no other option,” says the Honda rider combatively. He has already been testing in Cartagena and Valencia.
Bad luck: Fröde broke his collarbone in Valencia. He underwent surgery in Chemnitz last Friday and now has a plate in his shoulder. “It happened during a minor highside. The rear wheel slipped out from under me and then regained traction. That’s when I went flying over the handlebars.” Today, Sunday, Fröde was discharged from the hospital and is back home in Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The energetic teenager, who is currently finishing high school, now has to take it easy for a whole, long week.
