Yamaha rider Marc Buchner (Buchner Motorsport) won the first race of the IDM Supersport 600 at the season finale in Hockenheim. Second place went to his Yamaha teammate, Croatian rider Martin Vugrinec (Unior Racing Team, Yamaha). Luca Grünwald (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex), who finished third, rides a ZX-6R.
For Buchner, a dream came true. He had already secured a victory at Assen. Now it was clear that it wasn’t just a one-off. With a lead of nearly ten seconds, he was in a league of his own. In the first half of the season, his team struggled for a long time with setup issues on the Yamaha. These had severely hampered his title bid. Since Max Enderlein (Freudenberg WorldSSP Team) has already successfully defended his title on a Yamaha, Buchner is expected to finish as runner-up. This time, Enderlein is serving as a co-commentator for his class in the commentary booth. He only arrived in Hockenheim today and won’t be putting on his leather suit. The Saxon had to work until yesterday.
Two top drivers, Tom Toparis (Benro Racing) and Sander Kroeze (MGM Racing Performance), were forced to withdraw. Kroeze and second-place finisher Vugrinec had arrived at the finale tied on points and are battling for third place in the overall standings. After Kroeze’s zero-point round, the advantage now clearly lies with Vugrinec.
Former champion and guest driver Kevin Wahr finished in 13th place. He plans to compete in a full season again next year. Between his job and his wedding, it was simply too much this year.
Jan Schmidt (Frankfurt Customs Racing Team) took home the full points in the DMSB Supersport 600 Cup. Stefan Ströhlein, who has already clinched the class title, was lucky to have sealed the deal back in Oschersleben. He brought up the rear today.
