The time has finally come. There are only a few hours left until the IDM finale in Hockenheim from September 27 to 29, 2019. Once again, Germany’s premier motorcycle road racing series is proving to be a magnet for riders from all over Europe and even Australia. Guest riders are coming in one after another. It’s now widely recognized that the IDM features races at the highest competitive level.
Manuel Schoewer and Marvin Fritz will be competing in the premier IDM Superbike 1000 class. Fritz won the 2016 championship with a small privateer team, with which he is now returning to ride a Triumph. Otherwise, he is currently competing in the World Endurance Championship.
Eight new riders are joining the already fiercely competitive IDM Supersport 600 field, where DMSB Superstock 600 Cup riders will also be competing in a separate classification. He’s finally back on the starting grid: Kevin Wahr, the 2013 Supersport champion from Nagold on a Yamaha. Two Norwegians are represented: Anton Ueland and Jonathan Lykke Nessjoan. Bradley Jones is traveling from Great Britain, and Noah Lequeux from Belgium. Damien Raemy, a familiar face from the IDM in Switzerland, is making his way to Germany. In tow, “Remmi Demmi” has his compatriot Joel Kugler. Although they won’t earn points as guest riders, the visitors could very well tip the scales in the battle for crucial points in the overall standings.
When the races are underway and the champagne corks are popping, however, one person will be missing: Max Enderlein. The reigning and new IDM champion now has to focus on his job. His employer in Leipzig needs him on Saturday. Until now, they had always given him time off so that Enderlein could defend his title. As soon as he’s finished everything in Leipzig, however, the Hohenstein-Ernstthal native will jump in his car and head to Hockenheim. He won’t be racing that weekend, but he can sign autographs.
A full ten guest riders have entered the IDM Supersport 300 . They hail from Sweden, Norway, Australia, Hungary, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. And then there’s Lennox Lehmann, the 2019 ADAC Junior Cup champion. He’s making his IDM debut in the 300cc junior class.
Nine teams from Belgium, Great Britain, Austria, Finland, Germany, and France are set to rock the IDM Sidecar as guest riders. Leading the pack is five-time world champion Pekka Päivärinta.
There is also strong interest in the cup series. A total of 28 riders have entered the ADAC Junior Cup, the BMW Motorrad BoxerCup, the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Cup, and the Twin Cup . One thing is certain: things are really heating up at the Hockenheimring.
