It was as if they were cursed. During the break between the first and second IDM Supersport , the Freudenberg team had tried everything to get the Yamaha R6’s electronics up to speed. But it was all for nothing. Max Enderlein lost the lead in the race once again due to a faulty ignition system. This time, Australian Tom Toparis took the win. The podium remained in Yamaha’s hands once more.
Max Enderlein got off to a perfect start. Tom Toparis, who had finished third in the first race, immediately tucked in right behind him. Dennis Lippert surged forward from fifth place to third. Gabriel Noderer’s Kawasaki was only visible in tenth position.
By the sixth lap, Toparis was already right on Enderlein’s tail; opening-round winner Sander Kroeze crashed, and Daniel Rubin edged past Dennis Lippert to take third place.
It happened on the tenth lap. Just like in the first race, Enderlein’s motorcycle began to malfunction, lost power, and Enderlein had to restart the R6. Toparis, of course, took advantage of this moment to pass him. There wasn’t much time left to secure the victory. The race was stopped in the twelfth lap due to a crash. A motorcycle was lying on the track. According to the rules, the eleventh lap was counted as the official result. Thus, Toparis won ahead of Enderlein and Rubin.
The top non-Yamaha rider was Gabriel Noderer. He had fought his way up to seventh place on his Kawasaki.
Toparis proved to be a very gracious winner at the podium ceremony, saying, “I was lucky and benefited from Enderlein’s bad luck.” Enderlein can still count this as a triumph, though. After the season opener, he leads the German-speaking contingent with two second-place finishes. In the IDM Supersport , he is in second place behind Toparis, trailing by just one point.
