The IDM is back in full swing. Starting today, the first practice sessions for this weekend’s season opener are taking place at the Lausitzring. Tire manufacturer Pirelli is kicking off its second season as the series’ official tire supplier.
In all solo championship classes, riders will compete on Diablo Superbike and Supercorsa SC tires. The brand’s development team has prepared a range of new tires.
Here is an overview of the updates to Pirelli’s products for the 2019 IDM season:
Superbike 1000 Class:
DIABLO SUPERBIKE Slick – new, ultra-soft SCX compound
DIABLO SUPERBIKE Rain – new rain tires with an innovative rear-tire tread pattern and available in the new 200/60 R17 size (SCR2 compound available)
Supersport 600 and Supersport 300:
DIABLO SUPERCORSA SC: – a completely redesigned V3 version, featuring improvements in contour, tread pattern, and compound formulations
“As last year showed, the rule that the IDM has a single tire supplier is a huge benefit for the sport,” explains Björn Lohmann, who is in charge of Pirelli Germany’s racing activities. “When the crucial factor—tires—is the same for everyone, the starting grids in all classes are more tightly packed, both in practice and in the races. This automatically makes the races more exciting, and that is, of course, a huge benefit for the spectators, the drivers, and ultimately the entire racing series.”
To ensure the best possible support for the drivers and teams, the long-established manufacturer brings approximately 1,600 tires to the paddock in two trucks for each of the eight race weekends. Six employees are on hand at each event to provide the necessary service.
