Yesterday, everything was still going smoothly for team boss Evrén Bischoff. The deal to finish the IDM Superbike 1000 season with Jordan Weaving was set. But the Briton didn’t stick to the agreement. Reportedly, his sponsors and those close to him would rather see him race in the UK. This coming weekend, while the IDM is in Assen, the British Superbike Championship will take place at Silverstone.
So things look quite different today. Over the past few hours, the same strategy that was used when signing Weaving has been put into action. Bischoff was on the phone nonstop. At the same time, his supporter Rob Venegoor—who once managed IDM Superbike riders Jed Metcher and Gareth Jones—put his contacts to work. The Dutchman currently runs a Kawasaki team in the 300cc World Championship and is always on the lookout for riders himself. In the case of Suzuki Alber-Bischoff, they found their man in Alessandro Andreozzi, a 27-year-old Italian who secured several top-15 finishes in the Superbike World Championship in 2017.
“It looks pretty good on paper,” says Bischoff, who signed him because he wants to have his GSX-R 1000 entered at Assen. Andreozzi has been granted permission to race at Assen and also at the IDM Hockenheim finale.
