Max Enderlein of Team Freudenberg won the first race of the IDM Supersport 600 series at Zolder. At first, it didn’t look as though the pole-sitter from Saxony would be the first to cross the finish line. Marc Buchner (Buchner Motorsport) took the lead, and Daniel Rubin (Rubin Racing Team) also briefly squeezed past Enderlein. However, the 21-year-old eventually restored the pecking order from practice. Enderlein won with a 0.407-second lead over Buchner and Rubin.
He summed up his comeback: “My start was bad, and so was the race. It wasn’t the heat that bothered me, but the muscle cramp in my forearm. That only happens to me at Zolder; it was the same last year.” What can you do about it? “Massage it a little, that’s all.”
Buchner admitted that he had overexerted himself in the early laps. Then his tires started to slip. “I tried to keep Max from passing me, but I didn’t want to take any risks. So I let him by.” Buchner now leads the overall standings. Enderlein is in second place, four points behind. Kevin Wahr (Team Yamaha Romero), who, as announced, focused on damage control and fought his way up from eleventh on the grid to seventh place, has slipped from the top of the standings to third place.
Vasco van der Valk (Benro Racing), the speedy Dutch rider, was thrown from his bike on the first lap, rode through the pit lane, and was unable to finish higher than 15th place. Amid all the Yamahas, Gabriel Noderer’s Kawasaki (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex) emerged in 11th place.
