When the IDM heads to Zolder this coming weekend, July 6–8, 2018, all classes will be on the grid once again, though one Superbike 1000 team is short-handed. At Yamaha MGM , a spot for a top rider remains open in Belgium. After title contender Danny de Boer announced his departure following the season opener, team boss Michael Galinski was able to secure Lorenzo Lanzi as a rider on short notice . The Italian stepped in and immediately delivered an excellent third-place finish. So why isn’t he staying? “Because I decided long ago to spend a season in the Italian National Trophy 1000 Championship.” There, the 36-year-old also rides a Yamaha YZF-R1M. Lanzi is incredibly eager to race in the IDM, but he won’t return here until the final third of the season at the earliest. The race schedules overlap until then.
At Zolder, Bobby Bos, the 19-year-old up-and-coming rider from the Netherlands, will now have to carry the load on his own for Yamaha MGM. Perhaps this is his big chance. He started the season with an eighth-place finish and is currently in eighth place in the IDM Superbike 1000 overall standings. Last year, as a Superbike rookie, “Bobster” scored four points over the entire season. Now he already has 25 after four races. And he is currently the top Dutch rider in the IDM Superbike 1000. The 6-foot-5, cheerful young man from Emmen has not only made a leap in height, but also a huge leap forward.
