Lorenzo Lanzi replaces Danny de Boer. After a difficult start to the season, Yamaha MGM Racing and Dutch rider Danny de Boer parted ways earlier this week. Winning the 2018 IDM Superbike 1000 title was their shared goal. However, de Boer did not find the package he needed to make that goal a reality. He is now pursuing new plans.
Yamaha MGM Racing regrets the departure. Nevertheless, the team will be on the starting grid this coming weekend in Oschersleben for the second round of the IDM Superbike 1000 class, which takes place as part of German Speedweek. Team manager Michael Galinski has reached a last-minute agreement with Italian rider Lorenzo Lanzi . Lanzi is otherwise competing in the 2018 Italian National Trophy 1000 Championship, where he also rides a Yamaha YZF-R1M.
The 1,000 cm³ class had always held a special appeal for the 36-year-old. It was here that he celebrated his greatest successes following a brief Grand Prix career. For a time, he was a fixture on the Superbike World Championship circuit. He managed three victories, but the popular Italian rider was never able to make a major breakthrough to the top.
Lanzi is no stranger to the IDM either. In 2014 and 2015, he raced here in the Superbike class and finished third overall on the Ducati 1199 Panigale R with the 3C team. He made it to the podium eight times in 2015, though he was unable to secure a single victory. Lanzi capped off the previous year with a victory in the second race at the season finale in Hockenheim. MGM Racing has landed a strong rider in him.
