The second IDM Supersport had its share of twists and turns and ended with a huge surprise. Kevin Wahr has taken the overall lead in the championship. He won the race after it was restarted following four laps because Sander Kroeze had crashed and the race had to be stopped.
And what became of Max Enderlein, who had led for several laps and kept Wahr at bay for a long time? The winner of the first race crashed in the very last corner. Wahr had taken the lead from him shortly before. Enderlein wanted to counter, but the plan ended in a crash. No reason to give up. Enderlein hoisted the Yamaha back up. Although the fairing was hanging in tatters on the side, the Saxon still managed to salvage 10th place at the finish line, thereby limiting the damage.
“Max had better pace than I did,” admitted Wahr after the race. “Over the last few days, he was half a second faster. My only chance was to throw him off his rhythm. Today I was able to beat him in the second race; his counter-maneuver backfired.” For Wahr, the victory marks a successful conclusion to the first IDM race weekend, “because we started fresh this year with WP suspension components and were also able to make significant progress here in Oschersleben.”
Due to Enderlein’s crash, Yamaha riders Marc Buchner and Christian Stange inherited the remaining podium spots. Buchner seemed satisfied. “I always lost a few seconds on the straights, but I was stronger on the brakes.”
