IDM Sidecar: Double victory for the former world champion

Pole position and two wins for the No. 1 sidecar—it was the perfect weekend for Bennie Streuer and Gerard Daalhuizen. The former world champion from the Netherlands swept the board at the IDM sidecar season opener in Oschersleben. André Kretzer and Björn Busch led for a long time, but then, just like in the first race, the team literally went round in circles. An unintended spin cost them the victory they thought was already within their grasp.

Streuer/Daalhuizen and Josef Sattler/Uwe Neubert immediately seized the opportunity to move ahead. Up until that point, Kretzer had repeatedly blocked Streuer’s path. The Dutchman would have had to take a risk anyway to displace Kretzer from the lead. Sattler, who had secretly hoped that Streuer would set the pace from the start—since, with his World Championship experience, he drives in a way that’s very gentle on the tires—said upon finishing second:

“André made the finish very positive for us.”
