SSP: Marcel Brenner is undergoing surgery on a vertebra

In the second race of the EURO MOTO Supersport last Sunday in Most, Czech Republic, Swiss rider Marcel Brenner (Automarket AF Racing Team) Supersport a serious crash. After a violent highside on his Ducati, he fell to the ground from a height of nearly four meters. The race was immediately stopped with a red flag, and Brenner was taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter. The good news: Following a successful surgery scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, doctors expect that the 28-year-old will likely suffer no lasting damage.

“His incredible physical condition and a huge dose of luck were on his side,” says his father, Bruno Brenner, with relief. He was an eyewitness to the accident in Most and recounts: “Even the doctors believed it was a miracle after seeing the video footage.” After an initial examination in Most, Marcel was transported on Monday to his local hospital, the Inselspital/University Hospital in Bern. Now, Bruno Brenner’s 26-year membership in the Swiss Air Rescue Service paid off. Marcel was flown home from Prague on a private medical jet.

The doctors' diagnosis: The tenth vertebra is fractured. The nerve canals are intact. During Wednesday's surgery, the injuries will be stabilized and secured with screws. One rib is fractured, and the neck region has been injured by the impact of the head.

Without physical exertion, the first phase of rehabilitation is supposed to last at least six weeks before he can begin with light exercise, but Marcel Brenner has racing in his blood. He’s not sure if he shouldn’t perhaps consider a comeback at Hockenheim after all. And he thanks everyone who has helped him over the past few days. “So many people have looked out for me; I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done for me.”
