The first task of the day is complete. Yamaha rookie Dirk Geiger set the fastest time in qualifying for the EURO MOTO Supersport class at the Sachsenring. This means the 23-year-old from Team Apreco will start from pole position in the first race, which takes place this afternoon.
Yamaha instead of Honda. The switch in brands and teams went off without a hitch for Geiger. Clearly, this also inspired his buddy Lennox Lehmann. At the end of qualifying, the Dresden native decisively pushed Swiss rider Marcel Brenner out of the front row, leaving only Brenner’s Automarket AF Racing teammate Daniel Blin on the Ducati Panigale V2 in the middle of the front row. That means the top four spots are split between two Yamaha and two Ducati riders.

In fifth and sixth place are the MCA Racing duo of Julius Ahrenkiel-Frellsen and Marvin Siebdrath. While all the other riders improved their times in the second qualifying session, Filip Novotný’s crash put a damper on things. The Czech rider crashed his Ducati off the track and had to go to the hospital for a checkup.

MCA rider Julius Caesar Rörig made a name for himself with his comeback spirit. After crashing in the first qualifying session, he returned from the hospital just in time for Q2. While still in the hospital, he gave the all-clear: he was stable, would be back, but was hungry. A short while later, he was back on his motorcycle, which had already warmed up and was waiting for him.
The debut of Jorke Erwig, who has returned from the BSB, as well as Till Belczykowski’s switch to a new manufacturer, got off to a slow start. Belczykowski was still in the top ten during yesterday’s free practice when it started to rain. In qualifying on a dry track, the North Rhine-Westphalian fell back on the Dreier Racing Team’s Kawasaki. Belczykowski had switched from MV Agusta to the “Greens.” The F3 800 R was taken over by Luca Göttlicher, who will miss the season opener. He is still injured from his test in Spain. The Bavarian suffered second-degree burns on his scraped forearm. In addition, his injured knee is still limiting him. Göttlicher will enter the Supersport class at the second EURO MOTO round at the end of May.
