Exactly one month ago, we announced here that Aprilia was entering the new IDM Sportbike class. Team WSC Racing from Neuss, which is directly supported by Piaggio Germany, is set to lead the pack among RS 660 riders. Who and what is behind this?

The rider is Felix Kauertz. The 23-year-old from Kevelaer is no stranger to the scene. Two years ago, in his first outing on a WSC Aprilia, he won the German Twin Trophy final. Kauertz also prevailed in the Twin Cup and finished second in the overall standings. In 2024, he followed that up with an overall victory in the GTT Open and second place in the Yamaha R7 Cup as part of the IDM. And he did all this despite having competed in his very first full racing season in 2022. Things are moving along quite quickly for Kauertz, and the trained automotive mechatronics technician has already left several more experienced competitors in the dust. His goals for the season have been raised. So far, it’s been going well.

Given his experience on the six IDM tracks on the 2025 calendar, expectations are naturally high as he makes the leap to the sportbike class. “We hope that, despite the many strong riders and teams in the new class, we’ll be able to compete for wins and maybe even the title,” says team boss Roland Matthes optimistically, running his hand over the fairing of the Aprilia RS 660.

Meanwhile, Kauertz has been undergoing intensive training in Spain since the end of December. “There are some fast riders from the former IDM Supersport 300 class competing in the new category. But I’m ready for the challenge.” He wants to give his more than 7,000 Instagram followers something to look forward to.
