At this season finale of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) in Hockenheim, Oliver Svendsen has the chance to cap off his best season yet in the Supersport with the championship title. This puts the 20-year-old Dane, who only joined Team Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing this year, on the verge of his biggest success to date. This season, Svendsen has had a very special companion by his side at all times: his helmet. Not just any helmet, but a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted piece by Danish artist Kristian von Hornsleth.

The helmet not only catches the eye with its extraordinary design and bold lines, but also carries a very special message. The word “Courage” is emblazoned across it, split into “cou” and “rage.” For Svendsen, this inscription has deep meaning. “Cou” stands for the courage he needs on the racetrack to come out on top. “Rage,” on the other hand, means anger—a controlled aggression that gives him the drive he needs before every race. “The helmet is one-of-a-kind, and I’m really proud of it,” says Svendsen, who is also personally sponsored by the artist: “He’s just as special as his art. He likes the sport and just wants to support me in getting ahead.”
The helmet’s message embodies heart and fighting spirit—exactly what is expected to secure him the title this weekend at Hockenheim. “For Hockenheim, I hope the helmet brings me that little bit of luck,” Svendsen reveals. This Saturday, the Dane can clinch the championship if he finishes at least second in the first race at 3:25 p.m. If not, the decision will be postponed until the final and decisive race on Sunday.
