It was a carefully considered decision. The Hertrampf team and Kevin Wahr are going their separate ways. The 35-year-old Triumph rider from Nagold had already been sitting pensively in the pits during the last IDM round in Most. Several discussions with team boss Denis Hertrampf brought the joint IDM Supersport season to a premature end shortly before the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Schleizer Dreieck.
Kevin Wahr was the first of two riders to be confirmed for the new Triumph Germany Supersport Racing Team in the winter. The dominant Supersport champion of 2013 reappeared at last year's Hockenheim finale, exactly ten years after winning the title and taking a break from racing. As a guest starter, he immediately finished sixth on the Triumph Street Triple 765.
When 17-year-old Luca Göttlicher was nominated as the second rider, the former champion was delighted to be able to pass on his experience to the rookie. But the youngster has since impressively overtaken his mentor and scored points for a podium finish for the first time in Most. He finished fourth in the second race, but the guest rider ahead of him was not classified.
True, someone who is firmly integrated into the family business at home, has power of attorney, and has his own family with two children waiting for him can no longer keep up with the pace. His comeback on the race track was difficult, and the mid-field results satisfied neither him nor team boss Denis Hertrampf. The Triumph currently stands abandoned in the team's pit tent, and Göttlicher deserves full attention. Technical director Lothar Kraus firmly believes: "Luca still has something to offer."
