Race Night on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Motorrad Center Altendiez (MCA). It’s now official: Dirk Geiger has joined the MCA Racing Team and will be Julius Caesar Rörig’s teammate in the IDM Supersport class for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old from Mannheim signed his contract today with team boss Stefan Schmidt. Let the party begin.
Dirk Geiger is no stranger to the scene, having already enjoyed a successful Supersport . The 2015 ADAC Junior Motorsport Champion made a strong debut in the 2021 International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) with the Freudenberg team on a KTM, securing seven podium finishes. Four of those were wins. A year later, riding for the Füsport team on a Kawasaki, he achieved the absolute highlight of his career so far: victory in Portugal with a 0.042-second lead over the runner-up in the Supersport . He also secured five additional podium finishes.
Geiger has recently been splitting his time between the IDM and the World Championship, with one taking precedence over the other. That was also the case in 2023. In the IDM, the Hesse native—back with the Freudenberg team—competed in four events, each featuring two races. And he did so successfully. Two wins, two second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes speak for themselves.
However, Geiger has now completely wrapped up his time in the Supersport , and his protracted departure from Team Freudenberg is also a thing of the past. Geiger had been hinting for some time that he was looking to switch classes. Now, the Honda CBR 600 RR is set to join MCA Racing. This has Supersport doubled the number of Honda models in the IDM Supersport one fell swoop. Julius Caesar Rörig had been a lone rider there until now. The 17-year-old, riding the latest version of the bike—which wasn’t yet available in Germany—finished tenth in the IDM Supersport as a development rider. “This year he’ll be in the running for the title; I’m absolutely certain of that,” says the team boss, who is also his father.
The roll-out took place in Almería and at the Andalucia Circuit in Spain. Geiger was there riding a Honda equipped with an IDM engine, but with different electronics and suspension. “Dirk settled in well. I was surprised,” said Schmidt, sharing his first impression. He added, “This could be a good season.”
