With the introduction of the Next Generation category in the Supersport class, the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) has given the green light for a larger starting grid. And now the next big announcement has been made: the Triumph Germany Supersport team. Rider: Kevin Wahr.

Triumph Germany Supersport —that is the official name of the team with which Triumph Germany plans to shake up the IDM in the upcoming season. Denis Hertrampf, managing director of Triumph Emsland, and the brand’s importer, Triumph, are the driving forces behind the project. Lothar Kraus will serve as technical director.

Kevin Wahr is the first of the two planned riders for the 765cc Street Triples to be confirmed. The 2013 Supersport made his return in September—exactly ten years after winning his title and taking a break from racing—and immediately finished sixth as a guest rider at the IDM finale.

At Triumph, motorsports are a way of life for the employees. “Anyone who knows me knows that I love motorsports and even compete in club sports events myself,” explains Uli Bonsels, Press Officer and Service Manager at Triumph Germany. “That’s why I’m particularly pleased that we’ve found a very experienced partner in Denis Hertrampf to help us put together the racing team for the 2024 IDM season. Denis has been active in motorsports for more than 25 years and brings an indispensable, comprehensive set of expertise to our Triples.”

Lothar Kraus, whom we mentioned earlier, is no stranger to the scene either. He made a name for himself as a former race car driver and tuner with his own workshop. He has been in charge of the Triumph project at Triumph Emsland since mid-2021. Kraus is further motivated by Wahr’s success at Hockenheim. “He hasn’t lost any of his speed during his break from motorsports. I’m also certain that he can be a great help to us in developing the motorcycle,” says the Baden-Württemberg native, speaking with conviction about the 34-year-old father of two.

Hertrampf’s company, Triumph Emsland, is fully responsible for the technical side of things. For over five years, the team has been gaining experience with racing bikes from the legendary British manufacturer. Through the “Moto2-Style” project and in partnership with BBT, they developed the blueprint for the IDM bike based on the Triumph Street Triple 765. Hertrampf now hopes to seamlessly build on the success at Hockenheim as the official Triumph Germany Supersport Team.

At the same time, Triumph Emsland is now the official representative of Triumph Racing on the European mainland and is available to all teams in national and international championships as a partner.
