The Yamaha rider had made it her firm resolution for 2023 to return to the form she had shown in 2021. That year, she had earned a total of 18 championship points on the Yamaha R3. But a one-year break from racing took its toll. The hiatus was necessary, however, as Michel could not afford to miss any classes during her first year of training to become a medical technologist in radiology. But upon her return, she found it difficult to keep up with the pace of her competitors. On top of that, the starting grid had been bolstered by riders from the World Championship. Since Michel was disappointed in herself, the team did everything they could to build her up mentally and support her. Team boss Stefan Laux may have had some harsh words, but he always believed in his 150-centimeter-tall “racing flea.” She scored her first two points at Assen, and added eight more at the season finale in Hockenheim.
