The Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing Team is a fixture in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). Now owner Emil Weber is selling his motorcycle shop. What does this mean for his involvement in the IDM?

Emil Weber will hand over his company, Emil Weber Motos AG in Rümlang, Zurich, to the Hostettler Group on January 1, 2024. “I was approached, and this is the best solution for me, since I don’t have a successor,” says the 57-year-old successful Swiss entrepreneur. He is set to remain the landlord of the retail space, which opened in 2007. The 18 employees will keep their jobs.

Weber will continue his racing activities as a privateer at a separate facility. At the moment, he has signed Leandro “Tati” Mercado, the only Kawasaki rider in the entire IDM Superbike field. The Superbike team is expected to continue operating, albeit under a different name, once Weber has closed his business. The team boss’s wish is for the motorcycles and engines to continue to be prepared by Kurt Stückle from Leutkirch, Germany. “There will definitely be a continuation in the IDM, and the same goes for the Supersport class,” says Weber, who also plans to devote himself to classic cars starting next year and, above all, wants to have more time for his pets: two cats and a dog.
