It has been a year since Jan Mohr had his serious crash at the Schleizer Dreieck in the IDM Superbike, in which Toni Finsterbusch was also involved through no fault of his own. Both riders went off the track at the Seng, the fastest section of the natural circuit, and sustained serious injuries. Finsterbusch has been riding for GERT56 since the start of the season. Mohr has now returned to the track at the Red Bull Ring with the BCC-ALPHA-VAN ZON-BMW-Racing team and finished eleventh in qualifying.

“I’m doing fine,” says Mohr, who is still toying with the idea of racing at the Hockenheimring. The 25-year-old Austrian has spent the past year undergoing a wide range of rehabilitation treatments. In Schleiz, he crashed into a tire barrier at full speed, fracturing one thoracic vertebra and cracking two others. He also broke his left fibula. “My foot is still stiff and will probably stay that way. There’s just a bit of a blockage there,” he says of his current health situation. “Now I just want to see how things go on the Superbike. Maybe there will be another opportunity at Hockenheim. If everything goes well, then we’ll see each other again next year for a full season with the BCC-ALPHA-VAN ZON-BMW-Racing Team.” What is certain, however, is that Mohr will compete in the final World Endurance Championship race of the year at Le Castellet from September 14–17 with Team OG Motorsport.
