Just three years ago, Marc Neumann was a regular in the IDM Superbike series. Now his appearances are few and far between, but the BMW rider from Burtenbach can’t do without racing entirely. And his father is always right there with him on the tank.
Neumann’s professional and personal lives are intertwined. At home, his family runs a private workshop where 50 percent of the work involves preparing street bikes, with the rest focused on race bikes. People are always coming in to ask about Marc Neumann and his successes in the IDM Superbike series, “but the level of competition in the class is brutally high.” He wasn’t surprised that he finished 18th and 17th in his first race at Most. The front of the pack is very tight. But he doesn’t want to just race in amateur events either.
But when Neumann competes in the IDM, he goes all out. In Schleiz, his second and final event of the year, he’s playing a dual role, competing in both the IDM Superbike and Pro Superstock series. So he’s taking on a double load—that’s as much as he can handle. Always by his side: his father. Since his father passed away seven years ago, Neumann has kept a picture of him on his fuel tank. “I couldn’t do it without him. He was also a motorcyclist and encouraged me to start racing.”
Two-time Supermoto World Champion Marc-Reiner Schmidt was actually supposed to race in Schleiz for Team Neumann Racing by Tommy Wagner, but he crashed in the final corner of the final lap at last Sunday’s Bulgarian Grand Prix and was injured.
