Supersport rookie Gabriel Noderer wanted to race in Superbike—and that’s exactly what he did. The 25-year-old Bavarian from Eysölden has now completed his first year on the circuit. Before the action heats up for the upcoming season, the BMW rider from the Kiefer Racing Team is indulging his passion for carp fishing.
You read that right. Common carp and grass carp. Weighing up to 5 kilograms and measuring 1.20 meters in length. “We have two carp ponds back home in Eysölden,” Noderer explains enthusiastically, adding, “We harvest the fish in the spring and fall. One pond remains empty in the winter, and the bottom is limed.” This allows the soil to regain its nutrients. The whole family pitches in. Grandpa mows the meadow in the summer and has passed on his wealth of experience to Noderer Jr., who is completely absorbed in his animal-related hobby. The fully grown carp are served with a clear conscience on the plates of local restaurants.
But racing remains the number one priority in Gabriel Noderer’s life. His best results last season were two top-ten finishes at the IDM Superbike finale in Hockenheim. “By the middle of the season, I hadn’t scored a single point,” laments the BMW S 1000 RR rider, “I had COVID, two retirements in Schleiz and at the Red Bull Ring—one due to technical issues and the other from crashes.” Noderer credits his team boss, Jochen Kiefer, for staying calm throughout. Kiefer told him that regardless of whether he finished eighth or 16th in the race, he definitely needed a learning year in the premier class. However, an upward trend had to be evident. Noderer has clearly demonstrated this. That is why he is in contact with Jochen Kiefer regarding a continuation of their teamwork. Noderer will know the outcome in four weeks.
