Dirk Geiger (Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki) gave it his all this weekend in the IDM Supersport . He also won the second race at Assen, securing a one-two finish.
Just as in the first race, Geiger and his rival Scott Deroue (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) were able to pull away from the rest of the field early on. But Deroue, who was racing on home turf at Assen, gave it his all in the second race to make things as difficult as possible for the Mannheim native. Despite numerous attacks and overtaking maneuvers, Geiger managed to reclaim the lead time and again and even countered a strong overtaking move by the Dutchman in the final chicane of the last lap. “I expected Scott to try again in that corner, so I was able to counter immediately,” Geiger said before the podium ceremony. Even though Geiger, as a guest starter, does not receive any points, his double victory brought great joy not only to himself but also to his Dutch team manager, Rob Vennegor. Scott Deroue finished second again and thus earned the full 50 points.
Despite a botched start, Lennox (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) won the battle for third place in a photo finish. He and Spanish guest rider Juan Antonio Conesa (MTM Kawasaki) also engaged in thrilling duels. But Lehmann wasn’t about to give up his podium spot and held on to win by a margin of two thousandths of a second. “That was close, because Conesa’s Kawasaki is damn fast,” said last year’s IDM champion, who heads home with two third-place finishes and 40 more points in the bag.
Dutch rider Walid Khan (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) also put in a strong performance on Sunday. On his home track, he got off to a perfect start and moved up from 15th to 7th place on the first lap. After the tenth lap, he crossed the finish line in fifth place.
For his birthday and to mark his coming of age, Leo Rammerstorfer (Freudenberg KTM – Paligo Racing) would certainly have liked to score maximum points with a victory. However, the Austrian was unable to achieve this in the second race either and finished in sixth place instead. Since he was able to pass his closest rival, Marvin Siebdrath (Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki), on the final lap—who today was struggling to defend the championship lead he had just secured yesterday—he at least managed to reclaim the top spot. He leaves Assen with 146 points, putting him one point ahead of Siebdrath.
