In the second Supersport race, rookie Max Enderlein went head-to-head with Twan Smits. But the two-time champion taught the 18-year-old Dutchman, who was performing above his usual level, a lesson.
First up were Max Enderlein (M32 Racing), Twan Smits (Team Apreco), Luca de Vleeschauwer (Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing), Jan-Ole Jähnig (M32 Racing), Melvin van der Voort (Team SWPN), Chris Beinlich (Roto-Store BRT Vitori), Andreas Kofler (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex), Yves Stadelmann (Kiefer Racing), and Milan Merckelbagh (Hertrampf MO Yamaha Racing Team) lined up as a diverse group.
Then Jähnig came under pressure from van der Voort. From start to finish, the Dutchman overtook the Thuringian. Stadelmann fell prey to Merckelbagh. At the very front, a group of four pulled away, with Smits launching an attack on Max Enderlein. The rookie, who had moved up from the IDM Supersport 300 junior class, enjoyed the lead for only a few seconds—then he was back at the rear. But it has long been proven that these young wild ones open the throttle with complete abandon and adapt incredibly quickly even to tracks they’ve never seen before. Smits took off on a high in Schleiz. Never before had the teenager made such an impression in the IDM Supersport.
But that wasn’t enough to beat Max Enderlein. After the race, the Saxon said calmly, “The only difference from the first race was that the gap behind me didn’t open up. I didn’t expect Twan to launch an attack, but that’s part of the game.”
Christoph Beinlich, who had been so looking forward to the event, wasn’t quite at his best physically—of all times, at his home race. The Pößnecker had hoped for more than just two sixth-place finishes at the Schleizer Dreieck. Local hero Micky Winkler, who lives right in Schleiz, failed to finish in the top ten in either race.
