He’s back in the mix: Dutch driver Rick Dunnik is set to begin his second year in Germany’s highly competitive mid-level series in 2022. After a year of learning the ropes, top-ten finishes should no longer be the exception. The 20-year-old from Staphorst has made progress.
Dunnik was the runner-up in the IDM Supersport 300 in both 2019 and 2020 before making the leap to the next higher class with the Zuwi-HDRacing team. Two tenth-place finishes were the highlights of his debut season. The first came at the Schleizer Dreieck, and the next at the Red Bull Ring.
“In my first year, I learned a lot in the 600cc class and had a good experience with the Yamaha R6. I’ve adapted to the more powerful engine, been able to collect a lot of data, and we’re making progress step by step as a team. I’ll be stronger this year.” The fact that the team has now headed to Spain for a series of tests should have a positive impact.
Rick Dunnik will be racing again in 2022 with his “old” race number “37,” which he was unable to secure last time. In the 600cc class, that number was still assigned to Paul Fröde last year, who has now moved up to the Superbike class.
