During the IDM tests in Valencia, Spain, Florian Alt led the timesheets in the premier class for much of the session. The hard work of the past few months is paying off for the title favorite from the Wilbers BMW Team.
What became clear in Spain: In dry conditions at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, there was almost no stopping Wilbers BMW Superbike rider Florian Alt. In the wet, however, the 2021 IDM runner-up came up short, and three-time IDM champion Markus Reiterberger—who started the race on a newly built Pirelli rear tire—was the fastest.
Given the available materials, Alt tested some brake pads this Sunday and then headed home. “We’ve definitely been able to find a setup for the BMW on wet tracks over the last few days,” Alt said, summing up the past week. “I really like the Valencia track; the surface was resurfaced about a year and a half ago, and it has noticeably more grip. We weren’t able to do quite as much as we’d hoped, but we were in Aragon beforehand and had two dry, successful days there.” And he adds: “We have to focus entirely on ourselves.”
The 25-year-old continues: “We were already performing at a high level by the end of the 2021 season. Following the first tests for 2022, we’re now seeing further success. We’ve become more consistent.” Alt recently played a key role in the development of the new Wilbers fork.
