He is 22 years old, and his life revolves around motorsports. To ensure that this remains the case in the future, IDM Supersport 600 rider Martin Vugrinec has become a partner in a company that develops racing parts.
“Spider” Martin Vugrinec has wrapped up his preseason preparations. The Yamaha YZF-R6 rider from the ferQuest Unior Racing Team has been on a testing tour for nearly six weeks now, first in Spain and then in his home country of Croatia. “As far as I’m concerned, the season can start right away,” says last year’s IDM Supersport 600 runner-up. The planned IDM season opener at the Lausitzring was actually supposed to take place now, but it was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Because the coronavirus situation in Germany remains tense, Vugrinec has therefore stayed home in Croatia. There, he will have the opportunity to train again in Rijeka from May 3 to 6.
Vugrinec can’t sit still. The energetic racer recently became Technical Director of ART. Behind the company is Alfa Racing Technology, which manufactures motorcycle parts and accessories. Its goal is to make technologies from MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship available to all racers and street riders. The company is headquartered in Bavaria, with production taking place in Croatia. Vugrinec, who is sponsored by ART and speaks excellent German because he lives in Bochum due to his racing career, describes his job as follows: “I’m involved in the development of every single part, from design to programming.” Vugrinec knows more about motorcycles than just how to ride them fast. He’s also a technician. But he emphasizes: “My priority remains racing, and that was also a prerequisite for the deal with ART.” He will commute between Germany and Croatia as needed. The 22-year-old, who has his sights set on the IDM title, wants to become a world champion.
