As the only Honda rider in the field, Paul Fröde from Hohenstein-Ernstthal won the IDM Superstock 600 class last year. He had actually been scheduled to move up to the IDM Superbike 1000 class in 2021, but the move was postponed by a year.
Fröde will once again compete in the Superstock class in 2021. However, as things stand at the moment, this will be held as the DMSB Cup and thus as a cup series. After winning the title in last year’s IDM class, Fröde initially considered moving up to IDM Superbike and riding the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 that his buddy Marco Fetz rode for Suzuki Laux. But with the importer’s withdrawal from the championship, that plan fell through. Due to the COVID-19 situation, Fröde and his small team have decided to continue on a budget for now and add another year in Superstock.
The Saxon rider with the number “37” has already been testing and joined his fellow IDM riders in Valencia, Spain. “I was actually faster on the track than I was a year ago,” reports the mechanical engineering student. “In the races, I won’t be focusing on the Superstock riders, but rather on the Supersport riders.” Both classes race in the same field but are scored separately.
Here’s what 18-year-old Fröde from Team ADAC Sachsen e.V. really wants to make clear: “If the team needs me, I’d be happy to step in as a substitute rider in the IDM Superbike at any time. I wouldn’t have any problem with that at all.”
