Despite the COVID-19 crisis, Jens Holzhauer in Wittenberge, Brandenburg, had no reason to complain about a lack of work. The IDM Superbike series kept the Honda dealer busy. There was a lot of catching up to do when it came to the new CBR 1000 RR-R. But the close collaboration paid off.
Alex Polita has already been confirmed as a rider for Team Holzhauer Racing Promotion in 2021. The rest of the rider lineup has yet to be announced.
At his shop, the team manager has prepared some real speed machines on two wheels. “Since the motorcycle arrived just before the start of last season, there was no time for development. We basically raced with a stock model,” says Holzhauer. Polita nevertheless narrowly missed the podium in the IDM Superbike 1000 at the season opener in Assen.
In the meantime, Holzhauer has gained a lot of basic knowledge about the new Superbike, as he puts it. “We’ve developed various performance upgrades and gained in-depth knowledge of HRC’s electronics. We’re also now equipped with detailed data on the bike’s geometry and wheel loads. New parts have been designed and built, and the handlebars and footpegs have been adjusted. We’re going to take a step forward. To be honest, our riders are getting a real firecracker under their butts.”
The CBR 1000 RR-R has shed eight kilograms. This puts the red machine right at the weight limit. Regular rider Alex Polita has also gotten his body back in shape. “I’m trading in my body for the 2021 season,” laughs the 36-year-old pro. He’s already lost six kilos, and more are set to follow.
