It was close—very close. Max Enderlein (Yamaha, Freudenberg SMC WorldSSP Academy) won the second IDM Supersport 600 race at the Sachsenring by the narrowest of margins. He finished exactly 0.024 seconds ahead of his Yamaha teammate Martin Vugrinec (Unior Racing Team), who had already put him under pressure in the first race. Luca Grünwald (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex) finished third.
At first, it looked as though Sander Kroeze (Yamaha) had everything under control, but on the sixth lap, Enderlein took the lead in the Sachsenkurve and pulled away from the field with Vugrinec in tow. Because the two were battling it out, Luca Grünwald was able to close the gap from behind, but couldn’t quite catch up. However, the Bavarian was ultimately able to make it onto the podium after leaving Kroeze and Karel Hanika (Yamaha), who had fallen back, behind him. Grünwald raved: “We should race on this track every year, even though it’s very difficult.” He’s not alone in that opinion.
Vugrinec struggled unsuccessfully to catch up with winner Enderlein. The Saxon rider said afterward that his gearbox hadn’t been working perfectly and that it had been a real struggle to secure the victory. With this one-two finish, Enderlein took the lead in the IDM Supersport 600 Championship from previous leader Sander Kroeze. He has established a promising foundation for defending his title at the Sachsenring. Vugrinec moved up four spots in the overall standings. He is now fifth, though already tied on points with fourth-place Glenn van Straalen.
In the Superstock 600 class, Paul Fröde, the only Honda rider in the field, won the race. Like Enderlein, he hails from Hohenstein-Ernstthal. After securing the victory, Fröde was momentarily speechless—something that rarely happens. “It’s my first IDM win, and right here at my home race,” he managed to say. Moritz Jenkner (Yamaha) finished second this time, and Jan-Ole Jähnig (Yamaha) third. It was a successful debut for the former Supersport 300 World Championship rider in the 600cc class. The Superstock podium was the only one featuring exclusively German riders. The IDM has taken off internationally.
