Due to changes in his personal life, Moritz Jenkner had actually planned not to compete in any IDM races this year, but the 19-year-old from Hohenstein-Ernstthal isn’t about to miss out on racing right on his home turf at the Sachsenring. Jenkner has registered as a guest rider in the Superstock 600 class. The former Cup class, in which he finished fifth overall in 2019, was upgraded in 2020. It now carries the IDM designation.
“I live there, and my team manager, Frank Peitz from PZmotorsport, is from the area. And it’s always been my greatest wish to race in an IDM event at the Sachsenring,” explains the Yamaha rider. The effort involved is minimal: no long trips to and from the track, and manageable costs. “But it will remain just this one event,” clarifies Jenkner, who takes ten minutes to get to the racetrack by bike.
Jenkner knows this challenging up-and-down track like the back of his hand. He completed his final laps at the Sachsenring in August. “But I miss racing and battling it out with my competitors. The competition in the IDM is fierce. When I flip down my visor, all that matters is the race; everything else fades into the background.”
The IDM Superstock 600 is integrated into the IDM Supersport 600 field. The two classes are easy to tell apart visually. The IDM Supersport 600 riders wear blue numbers on a white background, while the IDM Superstock 600 participants wear white numbers on a blue background. Moritz Jenkner will therefore have a white number. However, as a guest rider, he will not receive championship points.
