A minor crash by Tim Eby at the Hockenheimring over the weekend had far-reaching consequences. The 26-year-old superbike rider from the EGS-alpha-Van Zon-BMW team had to have half of his little finger amputated.

Tim Eby had really gotten into his stride on the BMW S 1000 RR and was testing out different front tires when he crashed in the Sachskurve. The crash itself wasn’t serious; the motorcycle remained virtually unscathed. What proved to be Eby’s undoing was that his hand got pinned under the handlebars and his little finger scraped against the asphalt. Eby had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. “My little finger was so badly injured that they had to amputate half of it. It’s not a big deal; I just hope I’ll be fit again by the start of the season,” Eby says bravely. The season opener will take place from August 14–16, 2020, at the TT Circuit in Assen.
