Marc Moser has already competed in several international championships. His sixth-place finish overall in last year’s IDM Superbike 1000 wasn’t quite what he was hoping for. After his first test rides on the Yamaha YZF-R1 M, the 27-year-old from Team Bonovo Action by MGM Racing believes there’s still plenty of room for improvement as he aims for the top of the IDM’s premier class. In an interview with IDM Press, he talks about what’s going on with Marc Moser right now and the role yoga plays in his life.

How have you spent the last few months?

“That was a difficult time. We set up a small home gym. I even started doing some yoga to become a little more flexible. Then, of course, I worked from home. In the mornings before work, I usually worked out and then worked in my sweatpants. That was actually quite pleasant. Now that the first COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, I was able to take part in javelin training in Hockenheim two weeks ago, though my IDM Yamaha didn’t have a racing exhaust on it yet. Luckily, things worked out quickly with the team’s first test in Oschersleben.”

How did it feel to be back in the saddle?

“Great! I felt comfortable on the motorcycle right from the start. It’s very similar to last year’s model, but the electronics are much more refined. I think you can get a little more out of this motorcycle than you could from last year’s model.”

Are you in shape?

Haha, of course! I haven’t broken a hand yet, like I did last year at the season opener at the Lausitzring. That injury really set me back for a long time. At Oschersleben, the fracture was still relatively fresh, and at Zolder it was especially painful because we have to really push the bikes hard due to the elevation changes on the track. But that’s all behind me now. I’ve already been riding faster than last year. So I think I can make it into the top 5. That’s a realistic goal.”

The Bonovo Action by MGM Racing team is huge. How do you feel about being a part of it?

I think the team is awesome. My little team within the group has stayed the same. I’m surrounded by the same people as last year. It’s great that Jonas Folger is racing with us in the IDM Superbike 1000. We know each other from back when we were both racing in the minibike championship. I have a lot of memories from that time. My dad bought my first leather suit from Marvin Fritz, who was also racing back then.”

What are your expectations for a short season?

“I hope we don’t have to race in the winter with studded tires. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the class. A lot of fast riders have joined the field. Favorites? Of course, Jonas Folger, Florian Alt, and Bastien Mackels. It’s really hard to predict.”
