Max Enderlein has been named “Motorcyclist of the Year.” In front of more than 600 attendees, ADAC Saxony’s most successful motorsports athletes were honored yesterday, Friday, for their achievements in 2019. The atmosphere at the “Neue Welt” concert and ball hall in Zwickau was electric.
In 2019, 23-year-old Enderlein defended his title in the IDM Supersport . The Hohenstein-Ernstthal native, who rides for the Freudenberg WorldSSP Academy, secured six victories that season. Being named Motorcycle Racer of the Year means a lot to him: “Above all, because it shows that the sport is recognized even outside our scene.”
The plan for 2020 is: “To win the triple.” Nevertheless, the focus will be on wildcard appearances in the Supersport. The plan is to compete in the Spanish rounds and the German World Championship round in Oschersleben. “Despite all our plans, we have to remain flexible,” says Enderlein, explaining, “Confirmation for a wildcard entry doesn’t come until four weeks before the race, and you can never be sure.”
The Yamaha rider will use the IDM as a training and promotional platform. “When I compete, I’ll be trying to win,” is his declaration of war to the competition right from the start.
His teammate in the smaller IDM Supersport class is Lennox Lehmann from Dresden. He was honored yesterday as Young Athlete of the Year. The 14-year-old is the 2019 overall champion of the ADAC Junior Cup. He, too, won six races this season and was able to celebrate his triumph early. This gave him the chance to make his debut in the IDM Supersport —where he’ll be competing in 2020—at the IDM finale in Hockenheim. In his first appearance as a guest rider, the KTM rider finished eighth.
