That was a crazy race. Unpredictable weather threw a wrench in the works for the second round of the IDM Supersport 600 series. After two starts and seven laps, Luca Grünwald (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex), Kevin Wahr (Team Motolife Racing Wahr Energie), and Sander Kroeze (MGM Racing Performance) were celebrated on the podium.

At first, the race was stopped due to two crashes. It was restarted, but with a starting grid that mirrored the order of the riders in the lap before the stoppage. In the meantime, it had started to rain. The race turned into a series of crashes.

Martin Vugrinec (Unior Racing Team) was the first to go down. Then Daniel Rubin’s Yamaha (Rubin Racing) skidded out. That was followed by Marco Fetz’s (Däschlein DRC) motorcycle. While the race was over for the latter two, Vugrinec had picked himself up and was able to continue. For him, third place in the IDM overall standings was on the line.

Meanwhile, the leading group consisted of Tom Toparis (Benro Racing), Luca Grünwald, Kevin Wahr, and Bradley Jones, the guest rider from the BSB Supersport class. It wasn't long before Jones also crashed on the rain-soaked track.

It looked like Tom Toparis was headed for a victory. The Australian was clocking his laps like clockwork. Then came the drama: While leading on the final lap, Toparis was thrown from his motorcycle in a highsider. He just needed to make it through the Motodrom and would have been able to celebrate his second win of the season. Instead, he had to watch as Luca Grünwald crossed the finish line as the winner with a 21-second lead. The Bavarian had stayed on his bike right until the end. “I was always able to close in on Tom, but I wasn’t faster than him,” Grünwald said at the finish line. “With three laps to go, he picked up the pace. That crash could have happened to any of us. It was damn slippery out there.”

The final standings in the IDM Supersport 600 were as follows: Champion Max Enderlein was the only rider to break the 200-point mark. He scored 222 points. Marc Buchner (191) finished second, and Martin Vugrinec (175) third.

Jan Schmidt (Frankfurt Customs Racing Team) won the DMSB Superstock 600 Cup race, ahead of Paul Fröde (ADAC Sachsen e.V.) and Per Behmer (Rubin Racing). Fröde was the only Honda rider in the field to break up the Yamaha contingent.
