Nearly 100,000 spectators are expected to line the Dutch track when the IDM Supersport 300 takes to the TT Circuit in Assen on August 17 and 18, 2019. The IDM junior class will hold two races as part of the renowned Gamma Racing Day in the Netherlands.
The Gamma Racing Day actually spans three days. It is the largest combined event featuring motorcycle, car, and kart racing in Europe. Motor Presse Stuttgart, as the IDM organizer and promoter, has pulled out all the stops to ensure that the smallest championship class can compete within this framework. Two races will be held in Assen. They serve as a replacement for the IDM weekend in Zolder, where the IDM Supersport 300 field was unable to participate. At the Belgian circuit, a minimum age of 15 is required to compete, whereas the IDM is open to riders aged 13 and older. To ensure all riders have an equal chance in the battle for championship points, the races will therefore be held as a make-up event at the Gamma Racing Day.
Over the course of the 2019 season, the IDM Supersport 300 class has quietly become a standout hit, thanks to its constant overtaking and dramatic finishes. Races are often decided in the very last corner. After the weekend in Schleiz, Belgian rider Angelo Licciardi (Kawasaki) leads the highly competitive junior class. In Assen, he’ll face off against the two local heroes, Rick Dunnik (Yamaha) and Colin Velthuizen (Kawasaki). But the best KTM rider in the field, Czech rider David Kuban, is also a force to be reckoned with. In Schleiz, the 17-year-old talent from Brno won the second IDM race.
