The second IDM Supersport at the Schleizer Dreieck was a spectacular showcase of German motorcycle racing and gave spectators exactly what they wanted to see: action of every kind. With 38 riders on the starting grid, the action was intense.
Marc Buchner (Buchner Motorsport), Luca Grünwald (Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex), Tom Toparis (Benro Racing, Yamaha), and Max Enderlein (Freudenberg WorldSSP Academy) were locked in a long battle over who would make it onto the podium. Buchner led the field for a full twelve laps. After that, Enderlein took the lead. Meanwhile, Martin Vugrinc (UNIOR Racing, Yamaha), Daniel Rubin (Rubin Racing Team), and Sander Kroeze (MGM, Yamaha) were also in the mix behind them. Two groups of riders had formed. Buchner was suddenly down to fourth, while Vugrinec and Toparis had moved up behind Enderlein.
Vugrinec was also the one who put Enderlein under intense pressure at the end. “Martin came flying into the Seng. I shut the door on him in the last turn.” The result: a victory and full points for Enderlein, second place for Vugrinec, and third place for the Australian Toparis, who said: “That’s an insanely tough course. Hats off to them.” Marc Buchner finished fifth.
In the IDM Superstock 600 Cup—for riders on production-based motorcycles who compete in the same field but are scored separately—Stefan Ströhlein (Neumann Racing) earned the full points. MGM Yamaha celebrated its second podium finish of the weekend with newcomer Milan Merckelbagh. Third place went to Belgian rider Tom Kohnen (DDB Racing, Yamaha).
Moritz Jenkner, who had posted the fastest practice time in the Superstock class, was no longer on the starting grid. The rider from Hohenstein-Ernstthal had crashed at full speed in the “Seng” section during the first race. Jenkner injured his thigh, and his family immediately headed home. The junior rider is now being treated at a hospital in Chemnitz. His Yamaha is a total loss.
