It was fate. In theory, Max Enderlein (Freudenberg Racing) should have—and could have—clinched the IDM Supersport 600 title early this weekend at Assen. With a 57-point lead over his closest rival, Marc Buchner (Buchner Motorsport), the Saxon was well on track to achieve his goal.
But things turned out differently. His points lead has already melted away before the first race has even taken place. That’s because the competition is now closing in relentlessly. Enderlein crashed his Yamaha during the first free practice session and injured his right collarbone. According to initial reports, it was dislocated and broken. Enderlein received medical treatment at Assen Hospital, where his arm was immobilized. Surgery on-site was not possible, as it was not a medical emergency. Enderlein traveled home with his team and will undergo medical treatment in Germany. The goal is to be back on the starting grid for the season finale at Hockenheim in three weeks—on a mission to win the title.
