The 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is now history. And Lucy Glöckner is being celebrated by Americans. The IDM Superbike rider posted the fifth-fastest time among the motorcycle racers who competed in the event, often referred to as the “Race to the Clouds,” in the Rocky Mountains.
“That was an amazing ride,”
Lucy Glöckner was still raving about it hours later. “The forecast called for bad weather, but at 8:00 a.m. the sky was bright blue. I got off to a good start, but at one point I thought, ‘This is going to be a damn long way to the summit.’ But then it was over before I knew it. I would have loved to ride twice as long. Because I enjoyed the ride so much. I made one or two mistakes; otherwise, I could have been a few seconds faster.”
Lucy Glöckner completed the 19.99-kilometer climb to the summit of Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountains in 10:21.932 minutes. Her Wunderlich Action teammate Thilo Günther climbed Pikes Peak on a BMW S1000 R, completing 156 turns in 10:16.637 minutes. The fastest time overall in the motorcycle category was set by Carlin Dunne, an American riding a Ducati, with a time of 9:59.102 minutes.
“We’re basically very happy with everything that’s happened here,” says team boss Frank Hoffmann, who is also the racing-mad CEO of Wunderlich GmbH . “We were all surprised by Lucy, but deep down I always believed she’d nail it.” And Hoffmann adds: “The Americans celebrated us. That almost forces us to come back here again.”
For now, however, Lucy is focusing on the IDM Superbike 1000 series, where she will be racing on a ZX-10 R for the Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex .
