Following discussions between the IDM and the DMSB, the IDM will expand the 2017 IDM Supersport 600 regulations for the 2018 season to include a stock sport class, which is designed specifically for former R6 Cup riders. Of course, Supersport models from other IDM pool brands are also permitted, such as a Honda CBR 600 RR, Kawasaki ZX-6R, or Suzuki GSX-R 600. In addition, the IDM’s new Superstock 600 class will also be open to B-license holders.

Karsten Bartschat, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of the MOTORRAD action team:

A good solution, especially for former R6 Cup riders! Given the significant number of inquiries from 2017 R6 Cup riders, it was clear that the overwhelming desire was to continue racing within the familiar IDM environment. The constructive meeting at the DMSB, during which virtually every option was discussed, resulted in what we consider to be a pragmatic solution.

Superstock 600 regulations are still being drafted

The regulations for the Superstock 600 class are still being finalized, but the general idea is to approve only those elements that are truly beneficial for the predominantly young participants in terms of their development and that offer a reasonable value for money. Races will be run together, but results will be tabulated separately for Superstock—where a DMSB Cup championship title is contested—and Supersport.

The Supersport 300 class will also crown an International German Champion in the 2018 season. This popular entry-level class is thus seeing a significant boost in status. Overall, interest in the 600cc and 300cc classes is currently truly enormous. IDM series manager Normann Broy receives daily calls with inquiries specifically about the 300cc class, particularly from the Netherlands.

The Superbike 1000, the top class of the IDM, will continue to be run under the established stock racing rules; however, there is a detailed list of technical requests from the teams and riders dating back to 2017. The organizers are currently reviewing which of these can be incorporated into the regulations.

The regulations for the IDM Superbike 1000, Supersport 600, and Superstock 600 classes, as well as the Supersport 300 class, are scheduled to be made available for download onwww.idm.deshortly (starting January 26, 2018).
